Silver Angels say "THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart"

Your Silver Angel would like to say…

“THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!”

Words cannot express the joy and love that was spread throughout Goochland this Holiday season. Your generosity filled the back of a truck bed “twice” plus the cab and packed, to the ceiling, a mid-size SUV with gifts!

A special "Thank You!" goes out to:

Mrs. Gordon for allowing us the privilege & honor of adopting 7 precious Silver Angels.

Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services for providing us our Silver Angels.

GES/SC teachers for embracing the program and sharing their Silver Angels with the children, showing pictures, making cards and collecting the tremendous overflow of gifts!

GES/SC students for their love and excitement.

GES/SC parents for your time, your generosity, your phone calls and your support!

Thank you to Goochland Pharmacy who provided over $200.00 in merchandise.

Thank you to Lifeway Christian Store for giving 20% discount.

Thank you to Target for a $25.00 gift card.

Thank you to Goochland Food Lion for providing each Silver Angel with a $5.00 gift card.

Many thanks for your dedication to this project from the Community Outreach Committee!

“Silver Angels” Holiday Adoption Program

Goochland Elementary/Specialty Center

December 8 – December 19, 2008

Season’s greetings from the GES/SC PTA Community Outreach Committee! For this holiday season we have partnered with Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services, to adopt seven elderly men and women (one per grade) to shower with Christmas joy. We lovingly refer to them as our “Silver Angels!”

A Silver Angel is an elderly person in Goochland County who lives alone, who is not able to go out and shop for himself or herself and needs assistance from others to do daily tasks. This is where we can help!

Your child’s classroom has adopted a Silver Angel for the holiday season. Our goal is for students to provide items from the Silver Angel’s wish list that can be found on the back side of the Silver Angel flyer sent home with students on Dec. 8th. Unwrapped gifts should be brought to school and placed in containers provided for each grade level.

Encourage your child to experience the joy of giving to others in the true holiday spirit. We can all make a difference… no matter how small the gift!

Donation deadline is December 19th. Thank you!

Please contact Lisa Hobbs with any questions at 556-3056.

Thank you!

12/6/08
Thank you to everyone who came out to wrap gifts Saturday in support of the Goochland Christmas Mother program. It was a full house of wrappers and our PTA members, including their little helpers, made up at least a dozen of the volunteers.

Got Books? Yes, you found books and you donated books! In a BIG way!

12/1/08
Many thanks for all the enthusiasm about "Got Books?"

Many students participated in the book drive and we totaled 54 gallons of books to donate to Goochland Social Services throughout the year. Our greatest contributors came from Kindergarten, First and Second grades and also students at the Specialty Center!

Thank you for your interest in this project! The donated books will go a long way toward providing reading materials to children who otherwise might not have their own books.

This ran in conjunction with National Book Week activities at the school.

Thanks again for your generosity!

PTA Community Outreach Committee Projects for November/December 2008

November 17 – 21, 2008: Book Drive in conjunction with “National Children’s Book Week”: Week of NO TV as adopted by the GES/SC Reading Committee
Calling all students and parents!

A children’s book drive is underway at
Goochland Elementary/Specialty Center!

November 17 – November 21, 2008

It’s simple…just look for gently used books that have served you well or ones that you no longer read. Have your child bring them to school to donate. Since not all children have books at home, your donation could be a precious treasure for another child less fortunate. In the true spirit of giving, you can make a difference in a child’s future.

Mrs. Zorger will be working with students throughout the year in guidance to package the books for delivery to Goochland Social Services. Every child at GES/SC will be helping to make this project a success even if you were not able to donate books.

"Out of school reading habits of students has shown that even 15 minutes a day independent reading can expose students to more than a million words of text a year."
(Anderson, Wilson, & Fielding, 1988)

Thank You!
